Jaywalking Rules Here

Traffic in Bangkok is an experience in and of itself. With 10 million people and all of them on the road at once what can one expect. There are virtually no cross walks. We did find one and everyone ignored us. Some close calls, yes! Everyone drives English style (with steering on USA's passenger side) and on opposide sides of the road than we are accustomed to. Making it more interesting to cross streets. There are usually 3 people to each motorcyle (often families with children) - driving is like a constant game of "street chicken." Interesting fact is that there are rarely accidents here - The Buddha is busy watching over these Bangkok drivers!

The Major Commerce River in Thailand

Each day we took a free boat from our hotel along the Chao Praya River and then changed to a Tourist Boat - very crowded as well with Thais, tourists and also many monks in saffron robes. Much better mode of travel than the smog filled congested Bangkok roadways! One day we were en route to the Royal Palace when we learned about a 30% discount (one day sale) at a Thai Silk Custom Tailor's Shop. We had already purchased our boat ticket yet instead ran and hopped aboard a Tuk Tuk to get to the Tailor's Shop before it closed. As we arrived we realized that neither one of us had our credit card. No problem at all. We looked at all of the books (with design samples), silk materials and were fitted for our new clothes. Then the Tailor's sister took us by taxi to our hotel with the credit card machine.  No way will they miss a sale. And we didn't want to miss the chance to spruce up our wardrobes for very little expense. We'll get to the Royal Palace another time!
